California is going green and so is the Golden Gate Bridge. Governor Gavin Newsom made the announcement recently at a small press conference on the Marin County side using the famous bridge as a backdrop. California has long been ahead of the curve when it comes to green energy and painting its iconic bridge green just makes sense according to the governor.
A few in attendance could be heard booing, but Newsom quickly reminded them that the Golden Gate Bridge has never been golden.
“It’s painted orange vermillion which is popularly known as international orange,” explained the governor. “It’s called the Golden Gate Bridge because it lies on the Golden Gate Strait which connects the San Francisco Bay with the Pacific Ocean. There’s nothing sacred about the current color. You can still call it the Golden Gate Bridge after we paint it green if that makes you happy,” he said.
He went on to explain that the bridge is going to be even more beautiful after the green paint job scheduled to begin this summer.
“The current international orange kind of blends in with the sunsets,” he continued. “Green is a cool color and will contrast dramatically with the reddish, orange of the sunsets. Most importantly, this will let the world know that we are the leader in green energy. Trust me, fifty years from now people will question why we didn’t do this sooner.”
The Dragonfly Report advises its readers to go out and take photos of the bridge in its current state as these pictures will become historical documents of the days when the Golden Gate Bridge used to be orange.
